Buffalo Bills 2022 Training Camp Preview
They’re close. Buffalo checks a lot of necessary boxes that are required to win a championship. A Super Bowl could be on the way to Orchard Park. As training camp opens in Buffalo, what do you need to know about the 2022 iteration of the Bills?
3 Position Battles To Watch:
Running Back: Zack Moss, Devin Singletary, James Cook, Duke Johnson
Good luck! Maybe James Cook is the favorite here as the incoming second round pick. Buffalo certain used more draft capital on Cook than the others if that’s your tie breaker. We know Cook is going to be involved. At the same time, are the Bills really going to carry all four of these guys on the roster?
Could Zack Moss be cut/moved? Ditto for Devin Singletary. Moss and Singletary have been battling for reps for what seems like forever. I wouldn’t discount Duke Johnson either. That guy had a good run with Miami last year in limited playing time.
Tight End: Dawson Knox, OJ Howard, Tommy Sweeney, Jalen Wydermyer
Conventional wisdom would suggest that Dawson Knox is the pace car here and he should be. I would just be remiss to mention the fact that Buffalo has poured a lot of resources into this department. OJ Howard is a former first round pick and a change of scenery could be the magic touch.
Let’s not forget about Jalen Wydermyer. Won’t impact things this year but is a long term developmental piece worth keeping an eye on.
Defensive End: Boogie Basham, AJ Epenesa, Shaq Lawson, Greg Rousseau
The Von Miller signing really shakes things up, huh? we have a lot of young guns here looking for snaps. The good news is Buffalo is going to have the ability to really rotate their pass rushers. Takes a good defense to a great defense really quick. If Basham, Epenesa, and Rousseau all take step forwards, the Bills could be a different kind of animal.
Ready To Breakout: Greg Rousseau
Rousseau would have been a much higher pick had he not opted out of the Covid season. After a four sack rookie season, it’s go time for the former Miami product. Oh, and he gets to learn from Von Miller now too.
Rookie To Watch: Kaiir Elam
I went over this in my draft grade but I just have a hard time not being in on Kaiir Elam. Really good football player and he’s about to get picked on a lot. With Tre’Davious White on the other side, teams will challenge Elam from jump street. We’re going to find out really quickly what Elam is made of.
Fantasy Sleeper: Gabriel Davis
If the Chiefs playoff game performance that featured four touchdowns wasn’t enough of a tease, I don’t know what will do it. Davis looks like a potential game changer in this offense. We know he’s got the requisite size and speed. After back to back 500 ish yard seasons, I expect Davis to shatter his prior career highs. With Diggs on his team, Davis will get a lot of open looks to do damage. With no Cole Beasley on the roster anymore, Josh Allen will be looking his way more frequently.
