3 PlayStation era titles that need a remake

When the PlayStation first released in the 90s fans never thought they’d see the likes of games like Crash Bandicoot, Resident Evil, and Silent Hill, generation-defining franchises that live to this day. Now that we’ve got the power behind today’s consoles and computer systems we can now see these games in all their glory with the remake treatment we have seen become the trend of the industry.

These games being re-released won’t only make veteran gamers happy but will also hook-in newer gamers struggling to find something to play with a compelling plot, gameplay and graphics.

Sometimes it’s easier to go for what has worked before, give it a brand new lick of paint and upgrades, and release it to the fanfare it originally received but with today’s audience. Let’s take a look at three options for developers to consider as they look to their back catalog.

Resident Evil (again)

The first installment in Capcom’s Resident Evil series originally came out in 1996. With its directors cut coming out a year later. Although the game got a remake in 2002 it deserves the same treatment that the RE3 and RE2 remakes had. The over-the-shoulder camera would work perfectly in this game, and with the power and graphics of today’s systems, a ‘REmake’ could be the best thing for this game, completing a RE Engine remade trilogy, potentially bringing back old fans and introducing the franchise to a new audience. .

Legacy of kain 2: soul reaver

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2 was an amazing game that remains heavily underrated to this day. The game can be perceived as a dark and twisted iteration of the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time than its predecessor; the game involves transitioning from living and spectral plains solving puzzles, much like the ‘Spirit Temple’ in Ocarina of Time. Seeing this game revamped may give this hidden gem its well-deserved glory at long last.

Silent Hill

Silent Hill was first released in 1999 and gave its player a true sense of supernatural horror, more so than that found in the Resident Evil franchise, with a thick atmosphere and constant suspense in not knowing what lurks around the corner. It also leaves you in control of a character with no prior experience in combat which results in additional psychological horror. Giving this game a similar treatment as the REmakes will give this game some true potential, returning one of the Mount Rushmore franchises of video game horror.
