Did Davante Adams Really Compare Derek Carr To Aaron Rodgers?

Here at Vendetta Sports Media, the Las Vegas Raiders oftentimes are the butt of a joke. It is hard to find folks here that believe in this team outside of Alex Chick (Chickster). I have previously told the truth about this Raiders team, which I am sure was hard to hear. There is A LOT to like about this Raiders team going into the 2022 NFL season, but the biggest reason for optimism was the off-season trade for All-Pro Davante Adams. Raiders fans are overjoyed that Adams is paired up with his old college teammate Derek Carr. I am high on this Raiders team in 2022.

However, something Adams said while meeting with reporters Thursday stuck with me. I had to do a double-take when I heard what you’re about to read.

“As far as talent and ability, it’s really similar, if I’m keeping it real,” Adams said, via NFL.com. “They throw the ball a lot different. Derek’s gonna fire it in there, and you gonna know that thing’s coming quick. Aaron’s got the ability to tighten that core up and flick that ball to you. So the release is a lot different, but being able to get the ball to you late, if they see you coming out of a break, not many quarterbacks can get it to you before you get to the sideline if you’re outside the numbers already. Having two guys like that with really strong arms, and understand the game, the mental part of it, is another similarity that they have. They both obsess over it and they know everything that’s going on out there.”

I mean, don’t get me wrong here I think Derek Carr could find that 2016 form again where he almost won MVP potentially had it not been for a broken leg on Christmas Eve. This offense is stacked with talent to where they can score with the best of them. But to compare Carr to back-to-back MVP Aaron Rodgers!? Seriously? This I cannot defend. This is like comparing apples to grapes. Rolls Royce to Mazda. Aaron Rodgers is a first-ballot Hall of Famer. Derek Carr and Aaron Rodgers don’t quite belong in the same sentence as far as talent goes. I could be proven wrong though! Carr could go out this year and throw for almost 5,000 yards and silence all the doubters. Will he? That remains to be seen.

The Las Vegas Raiders have the worst odds in their division to win the AFC West (+650 via DraftKings SportsBook). I firmly believe if this offense reaches its full potential, with a better defense than last year, they genuinely could make a run at the division. I like Derek Carr as well, but to put him up there with Aaron Rodgers is insanity. I know you have to support your guy and all, but Davanta Adams is putting a lot of pressure on Carr to perform well this season. If this team falters, a lot of the blame will fall on Carr I fear.
