Can Noah Fant Have Fantasy Success In Seattle?

We know the deal with tight ends. After the first four or five tight ends, you’re pissing in the wind when it comes to fantasy. If you miss out on the top names at the position, it’s all about taking the right gambles. Is Noah Fant that guy? Can the former first round pick out of Iowa finally have sustained fantasy success now that he’s in Denver?

Fant, 24, was traded to the Seahawks this offseason in the Russell Wilson trade. Fant was obviously deemed expendable for different reasons.

A: You do what you have to do to land a guy like Russell Wilson.

B: That Albert Okwuegbunam might just be better

Fant is tough to project from a fantasy perspective for many reasons. Who the hell is Seattle’s quarterback? Does it matter? Can Drew Lock or Geno Smith really support a high end fantasy tight end? I have my doubts and we’ll leave it at that.

That’s not really the point. Regardless, Fant will play second and third fiddle to DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. Those guys are the bread winners of the passing game. Considering that it’s already a run first team under Pete Carroll, I’m not sure how often this team is really going to air it out. Obviously, something that further dings Fant’s fantasy potential.

Frankly, I’m just not sure Fant is uber talented. I’ve written plenty about Fant when he was coming out of college. Drops were a huge issue for him and they haven’t totally gone away. Probably part of the reason why Denver was more than willing to move on.

Truthfully, I just see better gambles than Fant. Especially in the short term. There are too many things working against Fant. Even if Fant improves and turns into a stud, how many balls are there to go around in a Drew Lock offense? I would avoid Fant until there is a coaching change and or quarterback change. Fant feels way more appealing in longer term leagues for those reasons.
