Anson Carter included in Capitals Tribute

Anson Carter is included in the Capitals tribute to their African American players. The tribute is located inside the Capital One Arena. Among others, images of Carter are on display to show the Capitals’ appreciation for these players who have had a massive impact on the game. On Wednesday, fans will get their first look at the display when the Capitals play the Edmonton Oilers. The display, first and foremost, is a show of appreciation for these players, but also an appreciation for Black History Month. The display is permanent, and will forever show the importance of these players in the NHL.

Carters Career

Now, let us dive into Carters’ career. In college, Anson Carter played hockey at Michigan State University. After his college days, he continued his career in the NHL. While in the NHL, Carter played for eight different teams. These teams included the Washington Capitals, Boston Bruins, Edmonton Oilers, New York Rangers, Los Angeles Kings, Vancouver Canuks, Columbus Blue Jackets, and the Carolina Hurricanes. Carter played in the NHL for a total of ten years. Within those ten years, he played 674 regular-season games. Also, during his career, Carter was able to surpass the 20 goal plateau on five different occasions. Simply put, for at least half of his seasons, Carter scored a minimum of 20 goals a season. That is a very impressive statistic, one that players chase and hope to achieve.

Anson Carter played in the NHL when it was extremely white-dominated. That is still the case today, however, now we are seeing more and more diversity throughout the league. The NHL continues to grow culturally. Without African American figures such as Carter, that would not be the case. We owe much acknowledgment and appreciation to these great players that have paved the way for generations to come. Anson Carter, your tribute is well deserved, congratulations.
