Les Miles Didn’t Think Ja’Marr Chase Had Any Talent

Ja’Marr Chase just put together the best rookie season for any wide receiver in NFL history. Don’t worry… Les Miles thought Chase didn’t have any talent. What? Yes, you read that correctly.

For whatever reason, recruiting stories for the former LSU receiver have been a hot topic. We’re going down a lot of rabbit holes including the fact that Chase almost played at Kansas? Anyway, former LSU head coach really thought that Chase wasn’t good enough to play receiver at LSU, let alone the NFL.

“One of my best stories ever, Les Miles told me I couldn’t play receiver when I was coming out of high school,” Chase revealed. “That was something I had on my shoulders growing up. Les Miles told me he thought I could play cornerback, I wasn’t really in full position at receiver yet. So I just kept working on my craft, offseason, waking up early in the mornings to work out. I just kept focused.”

Yes, Miles won a national title at LSU, but nobody ever took him seriously. Miles was a lot like a less enthusiastic version of Ed Orgeron. Miles spent two seasons at Kansas before being fired for sexual misconduct allegations from his tenure at LSU. Probably not the guy that has all the answers, huh.

Chase caught 20 touchdowns as a sophomore at LSU. He sat out the 2020 season and just put together the most prolific season for a rookie wide receiver. I think it’s pretty safe to say Chase as the WR thing figured out. It’s always amazing to hear things that motivated successful people. There is nothing better. Remember that time people thought Chase was a bust because he was having a hard time with the NFL ball? Things have changes quick, huh.
