In case you have been living under a rock for the past few weeks, after the highly anticipated boxing rematch between Jake Paul and Tyron Woodley, Paul named a number of people he would like to fight. Some names made sense from a fighting perspective: Jorge Masvidal, Nate Diaz, etc. But one name that made headlines was Dana White. Paul and White and have gone back and forth a number of times, mainly due to Paul calling out White for fighter pay.
Jake Paul has tried to lure Masvidal out of his UFC contract to fight him, but at the end of the day the decision comes down to the UFC President. After much back and forth between Paul and White, Paul has made some demands and it certainly is something to consider.
The breakdown is this:
There are some key takeaways from this. It is clear that Paul is actually interested in changing the fight game for the better. The desire to get fighters more money per fight AND guaranteed health care is something that fighters have been calling for for years. There have even been rumors of a union being made to help these issues. The other thing is the revenue part. The UFC grossed over $1B dollars this year and that number will only get bigger as the years go on. Getting the fighters a cut of that money would be massive.
Say what you will about “The Problem Child” but I believe at this point, you can not argue against the fact that he truly is trying to make a change to the fight game. If Jake Paul keeps winning these high-profile fights, he will make some noise one way or another.
