Buy Low/Sell High Players In 2021 Fantasy Football Week 5
We saw an explosion of points this past week and some buy-low players from last week bounced back in a big way. Both D’Andre Swift and DeAndre Hopkins put up great numbers, so hopefully, you took advantage of their disappointing week 4 performances. Let’s see if we can repeat and find some players to rightfully buy low/sell high on.
Buy Low
AJ Brown
AJ Brown owners are rightfully frustrated right now. After a decent week one performance with 12.9 fantasy points, they expected a solid return on their second or third-round pick. After that, he had a poor outing against a weak Seattle defense before succumbing to a hamstring injury that knocked him out for the past two weeks. Week five was supposed to be his time for redemption against a dwindling Jacksonville team. What ended up happening? Three catches for 38-yards. I realize there is a lot of concern to buying AJ Brown, but talent wins out. The Tennessee offense will get back to normal sooner than later. Once Julio Jones returns from injury, Tannehill will be able to sling it and defenses won’t know what to do trying to keep all of their weapons in check. Things will turn around quickly for Brown as his hamstring injury heals, so send out offers now. I expect many top 12 finishes from here on out for the talented young wideout.
DK Metcalf
DK Metcalf had a great game against a stout Rams secondary. A 2 touchdown performance may not warrant a buy-low opportunity at first glance, but the injury to Russell Wilson is something to take advantage of. Metcalf owners will have a great concern as Geno Smith takes over the offense. It is a risky move to trade for Metcalf right now, but risks can win championships. I am not a firm believer in Geno Smith, but I think he will force-feed his best playmaker. Regardless, Russell Wilson will be back this season, so if you have a plus record right now, send a lowball offer to the scrambling, concerned Metcalf owner. There is the chance Geno peppers him with targets, and eventually, Wilson will be firing his patented deep passes during the latter half of the season.
Sell High
Antonio Gibson
I don’t mean to beat a dead horse by putting Antonio Gibson on here again, but I still don’t believe in his situation and production right now. Two weeks in a row now he has salvaged an otherwise ugly day with touchdowns. And I know some people can say “that’s why he’s so good” but do you truly believe in this offense with Taylor Heinicke? Gibson still leaves the passing opportunities for JD Mckissic as he has seen 2 targets every game for the past four weeks straight. I do not and think the touchdowns will slow as well as Gibson’s fantasy points. I see this as only a better opportunity to move Gibson as you can get more now. Potentially moving him for a Darren Waller or Stefon Diggs could get done.
Mike Evans
Mike Evans had a field day against the Dolphins. The two touchdown 113-yard performance was an impressive finish against a stout Miami secondary. I realize that the Tampa Bay offense is firing on all cylinders right now, but this is not an offense where you can expect any kind of consistency. This kind of blowup from Mike Evans is a reason you can win weeks, but when he finishes with 2 points, that can also lose you your week. The Buccanneers just have too many weapons where you can reliably start any of their receivers. Especially for when Gronk comes back, Evans will be featured less. I’d send out offers selling Evans while you can right now, especially after a couple of solid finishes. A package of Mike Evans and a solid running back like Josh Jacobs (or Gibson above) could fetch you an upgrade at running back without a doubt.
Trading in fantasy football can make or break your season. If you can take advantage of when to buy low/sell high on a player, you’ll be putting yourself in a significantly better advantage as the season goes on, ideally to a fantasy football championship.
