2021 Projected Win Total: 8.5
On The Field:
We know that Louisiana is a hotbed for recruiting, but LSU did not sport a good team on the field a year ago. The Tigers went 5-5 a year ago and don’t feel much improved in 2021. LSU has already lost to UCLA and the charm of Coach O is starting to wear off. Important pieces to the program have also either transferred (TJ Finley, Arik Gilbert) or somehow have been ruled ineligible with bad grades (John Emery).
As SEC play gets ready to begin, it’s hard to see LSU as much more than a middling team in the conference. Derek Stingley Jr. is a top five pick in the NFL Draft waiting to happen. Kayshon Boutte is another star receiver to emerge from this illustrious program. However, this roster is a long ways away from the one with Joe Burrow under center that won a National Title.
Starting quarterback Max Johnson, Brad Johnson’s son, looks capable but isn’t considered a big-time NFL prospect. Certainly not toolsy enough to raise the ceiling of this team. LSU won’t be a total mess on the field but this iteration of the team is not a national title contender.
In The Market:
Right now, LSU won’t cost you an arm and a leg. The Tigers cost $42.19 a share on the SimBull market. They’re cheaper than TCU, Northwestern, Oklahoma State, and Virginia Tech. All of which are teams that can never reach the peak that LSU can. In fact, LSU is the 7th highest priced SEC team behind both Mississippi teams.
