Robert Griffin III Is Beginning His TV Career
Veteran Quarterback Robert Griffin III has reportedly agreed to join ESPN as an NFL broadcaster. It has been a long and pretty difficult journey for RGIII in the NFL. After excelling early on with both a Heisman Trophy and Offensive Rookie of the Year award in 2011 and 2012, injuries ravaged his career. He most recently served as a backup for Lamar Jackson on the Baltimore Ravens. While a clause in his ESPN contract would allow him to return to play, it is yet to be seen how many opportunities there would be for him. He did not exactly set the world ablaze during his time in Baltimore. Griffin threw more interceptions (4) than touchdowns (1) while completing a measly 57% of his passes.
Things Went Wrong Very Quickly
Unfortunately for Griffin, this was more or less expected. He was a great talent under center for his dynamic athleticism, much like with Lamar Jackson and other mobile QBs. When injuries took away from that significant athletic ability, all that was left was his throwing. He was long removed from his career-high 68% completion percentage and was never known for his arm power. Outside of the gridiron, however, he looks set to have a quite successful career on camera.
He still remains a household name for many after his great years with the Washington Redskins. Ian Rappoport even mentioned that the former Baylor man could definitely excel in the broadcasting industry. Of course, it would be nice for RGIII to maybe get one more chance. But I personally don’t see it happening. It really sucked to see things go downhill in Washington and to witness his eventual release after such a promising start. However, his play in Cleveland and Baltimore did not help his case at all. Regardless, I will definitely turn on my TV to see RGIII broadcast this fall.
