English attacking midfielder Jack Grealish is set to leave Aston Villa and join Premier League giants Manchester City on a £100 million fee, as first reported by Fabrizio Romano.
The move from Villa to City has long been circulating on the footballing world rumor mill, with reports as far back as last month illustrating City and Grealish’s desire to link up. The Villa star did sign a five-year contract with the club just last year, but Grealish made it evident that he wanted to join Pep Guardiola and co. in Manchester.
The 25-year-old is returning from an England Euro 2020 run that fell just short, and with expectations as high as ever at City following a Champions League final loss, Grealish will be thrown into the fray. City’s attack is loaded with talent boasting the likes of Kevin de Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling and Phil Foden. With Guardiola’s knack for rotating players and tinkering with formations, Grealish may not be getting the starter level minutes he received at Villa. Regardless, the Englishman is extremely talented and should figure to fit in well with the club.
After coming off of an injury riddled season that saw Grealish play in just 26 Premier League matches, fitness will be a priority. The Birmingham native scored seven goals and assisted on ten for Villa last season.
