Jason Kidd Hates Multi-Colored Group Chats
We’ve all been in group chats where one friend didn’t have an iPhone. Instead of a pleasant blue-bubble chat, the non-conformist in the group made certain that every text was bright green. Apparently Jason Kidd took offense to such a situation while he was coaching the Milwaukee Bucks.
Jason Kidd Wants You to Have an iPhone
Mirin Fader of The Ringer is releasing a book next month about Giannis Antetokounmpo. A recently released excerpt of the book said the following:
Little things were made to be a big deal: At one point center Thon Maker didn’t have an iPhone, messing up the team’s blue-bubble iPhone group chat. Kidd was upset about it and made the team run because Kidd felt that Maker not getting an iPhone was an example of the team not being united.
Mirin Fader, Giannis: The Improbable Rise of an NBA MVP, out August 10
Honestly, props to Jason Kidd for saying what we all wish we could say to our friends. Just another reason why he is an all-time great. Shame on Thon Maker for being that guy. That’s probably why he got traded to the Detroit Pistons, which, contrary to the beliefs of some, is not a very popular destination.
Jason Kidd’s tactics didn’t really pay off. The Bucks only finished above .500 once in four seasons while he was their coach, resulting in Kidd’s firing in 2018. He was recently hired as the new head coach for the Dallas Mavericks, so we’ll see how he does there. As long as everyone there has an iPhone, he probably won’t have many complaints.
