Robert Woods: A Wide Receiver To Target For 2021 Fantasy Football

Robert Woods finished last season as the wide receiver 13 in PPR leagues with Jared Goff as his quarterback. Now, he has Matthew Stafford, a top 10 quarterback who is already Sean McVay-approved, throwing the ball to him, but Woods is ranked as the wide receiver 19 on websites like Fantasy Pros. It just does not make sense.

Not only did Woods put up productive numbers while being limited by Jared Goff, but he also did it on a run-heavy team with another great receiver in Cooper Kupp. With an absolute gunslinger in Stafford, the sky is truly the limit and a top 12 finish for Woods is not unrealistic. The playstyle of the Rams should be completely changed, as Stafford has the arm talent to make long throws downfield to receivers like Woods.

The only slight concern for Woods could be a lack of volume, as Kupp will get his fair share of targets. However, in a pass-heavy offense in which Woods is the 1A receiver while Kupp is the 1B, Woods looks set for volume. He is simply too talented of a route-runner to not get the ball, especially with such a capable quarterback at the helm.

There is a belief that Woods is best as a short route-runner and that he is unable to catch passes downfield, but that myth came about as a result of the role he and Kupp had to play to make use of Goff’s limited arm. With Stafford’s elite accuracy on deeper passes, expect Woods to catch passes further down the field and raise his ceiling for fantasy football.

I will gladly let Woods stay at his current value because it allows me and other smart fantasy players to draft a safe high-end WR2 with legitimate WR1 upside at a relatively low price. A talented WR1 paired with a great quarterback and a genius coach. What more could you ask for in a fantasy football selection?
