How the SimReds Can Become the Best Buy on the SimBull MLB Market
This weekend, the Cincinnati Reds finished off a road sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals. In the final game, outfielder Jesse Winker hit three home runs, bringing his total to 17 on the season. Through 57 games, the Reds are 28-29 and fourth place in the NL Central. On the surface, this seems like a pretty average team, but there’s one thing they could do to seriously change the SimReds share price on the SimBull MLB Market.
On SimBull, the SimReds have a share price of $29.62. That’s the eighth-cheapest price on the SimBull MLB market and within the bottom third of all shares on SimBull regardless of sport. For reference, their share price is comparable to the Tigers, Twins, and Nationals. Those three teams are an average of 11 games below .500, while the Reds are just one game down from even. Already, we’re probably looking at a team that is severely undervalued.
Hitting? Good.
As we approach the MLB trade deadline, the Reds can greatly improve their value on SimBull by adding an elite pitcher to their staff. They already have pretty much all the offense you could ask for. A third of the way through the 2021 MLB season, the Reds rank in the top five for batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage (OBP), on-base plus slugging percentage (OPS), home runs, and total bases. They are in the top ten for runs batted in and in the bottom ten for strikeouts. Jesse Winker and Nick Castellanos are the top two hitters in all of MLB for batting average. Offensively, the Reds are about as good as it gets.
Pitching? Bad.
The Reds pitching staff is a much different story. They are 28th in earned run average (ERA), 27th in walks and hits per inning pitched (WHIP), and 15th in opponent batting average. Luis Castillo was supposed to come in and be a clear ace for this team, and that hasn’t panned out at all. He is currently 2-8 with a 6.63 ERA and league-leading 43 earned runs. The pitching has been the thing holding Cincinnati back from being a contender for the NL Central. I wouldn’t say any of the teams in this division are particularly strong, so the Reds still have an opportunity to turn it around with a big move.
Some trade options that would help the Reds pitching staff are as follows:
- German Marquez, Colorado Rockies
- José Berríos, Minnesota Twins
- John Means, Baltimore Orioles
- Max Scherzer, Washington Nationals
Each of these pitchers play for a last-place club and could be a potential trade piece at the deadline. I would say coming away from the deadline with even a league-average pitching staff would make the SimReds the best buy on the SimBull MLB market. The offensive production is there, they just need to get better at preventing runs.
