Adam Trautman Is A Sneaky Fantasy Tight End In 2021

In fantasy football, the tight end position is usually a wasteland. Past the established tight ends, your best bet is to hope and pray for a Robert Tonyan situation, who posted double-digit touchdowns seemingly out of nowhere. Could Adam Trautman be the random tight end hero in 2021? Worse gambles certainly exist.

Talent and opportunity create fantasy success, and Trautman may have both. The former 2020 third-round pick posted monster numbers at Dayton, posting 70 receptions for 916 yards (13.1 per) and 14 touchdowns in 2019 after transitioning from being a wildcat quarterback. Trautman’s 40 yard dash time is only around 4.8 seconds, but his huge six-foot-five frame is a big plus.

It is rare that rookie tight ends do anything in year one, but Trautman flashed some potential with 15 catches for 171 yards and a score. He looks like he could develop into a significant red-zone threat, especially with Sean Payton able to draw up easy scores for the Dayton product.

Moreso than anything, TE1 with the Saints is Trautman’s job to lose. Jared Cook departed New Orleans for the Chargers, leaving just Trautman and journeyman Nick Vannett, who has 75 receptions in 70 career games and is now playing for his fourth different organization. There is no reason why Trautman cannot take the job and run with it.

Sure, Drew Brees is gone, but the offense should remain strong (Sean Payton will make sure of it), especially from a fantasy perspective. Instead of having Brees throw short check downs to Alvin Kamara all game, Jameis Winston is going to be chucking absolute bombs down the field and the more shootouts the Saints are in, the better their tight ends and receivers will perform on a fantasy roster.

The young tight end has an opportunity to thrive in 2021. When looking at tight ends for fantasy, Adam Trautman is a great gamble to take.
