What the hell should we do with Kadarius Toney when it comes to fantasy football? I don’t think the Giants even know what they’re going to do with Toney. Yes, New York took Toney in the first round. However, it’s hard to take him seriously as a legit fantasy option until further notice.
Tyreek Hill is really the exception to the rule. Any time we get one of these gadget guys, normally we’re really disappointed. Even someone like Percy Harvin (also a University of Florida product) it was hard to count on him for consistent fantasy production. Then we have a large group of the gadget players that just outright fail.
I think two players really epitomize the problem here. Tarik Cohen is a good football player. He even has some weeks that are high impact fantasy weeks. They’re just impossible to predict which weeks they are coming. Doesn’t Mecole Hardman feel the same way? He could go for two long touchdowns one week. Then you don’t hear from him for a month.
It feels a lot like what Toney will bring to the table. Talented? Sure. Big play potential? Sure. Inconsistent and impossible to project? Hell, yes. Toney could very well be a big part of the gameplan one week. Then he’s in witness protection the next. A recipe that’s a total nightmare for fantasy owners.
There are also a lot of mouths to feed here with the Giants. There’s no guarantee the Florida product carves out a consistent role. With Kenny Golladay, Darius Slaton, Sterling Shepard, and John Ross on the roster there’s really no guaranteed target share. Factor in Daniel Jones being unproven in a run first offense, I just don’t see the consistent upside in fantasy.
I didn’t hate the Giants draft (although I wouldn’t have taken Toney in the first round). To trade down and collect an extra first along with Kadarius Toney feels great. However, this is fantasy football. Despite being drafted in the first round, it’s hard to take Toney seriously as a legit fantasy option until proven otherwise.
