Shaquill Griffin Signs With The Jacksonville Jaguars
Shaquill Griffin has signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The deal is a 3-year deal worth $44.5 million. $29 million of that is guaranteed. This was first reported by Adam Schefter via Twitter.
Shaquill Griffin had a great year. He had 3 interceptions in 12 games. Along with that Griffin also had 12 pass deflections. The Jacksonville Jaguars add a stud at corner with Griffin. The Jaguars have had a decent offseason so far. With their #1 draft pick probably being Trevor Lawerence, the Jaguars are doing every they can to compete in the AFC South.
The deal proves how much the Jaguars value Shaquill Griffin. He has been trending upward as far as rankings for corners. Considering how much the deal is per year at about $15 million, that is relatively cheap for decent corners but enough money to show that he is valued. The cornerback market is scarce this year in the 2021 offseason. The Jaguars got one of the few good ones on the market for a great price.
It is tough to say how close the Jaguars are in actually competing in the AFC South. With the Colts trading for Carson Wentz, they seemed to be the AFC South favorites to win the division. After that, the Titans are nothing to messed with either. The Jaguars will probably be better than the Texans. They practically have no future or talent outside of Deshaun Watson. But the Jaguars with these new acquisitions like Griffin, they could contend for the playoffs in the AFC as a wild card, if they’re lucky.
