Anonymous Player Says Jayson Tatum & Jaylen Brown Don’t Make Teammates Better
The Celtics are struggling so it’s time to kick them while they’re down. The only two positives with the franchise are that Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown have major star power. Well, are we positive about that? Why are things going so poorly this year?
An anonymous player recently told Jeff Goodman of the Bob Ryan & Jeff Goodman Podcast on the CLNS Media Network that Tatum and Brown aren’t making teammates better.
“(Jayson) Tatum & (Jaylen) Brown can’t be your Superstars,” the player told Goodman. “They only do things to help their game. They don’t get anyone else easy shots. All they know how to do is score.”
“They (Tatum & Brown) don’t turn down tough shots to get a guy an easy shot,” the player said. “So teams are onto them.”
I don’t necessarily disagree with this take. Tatum and Brown have often times focused on scoring instead of trying to distribute. On the season, Tatum is averaging 4.5 assists while Brown sits at 3.9. They aren’t egregious numbers but the truth of the matter is the Celtics lack ball movement.
One of the things people didn’t understand is that Gordon Hayward was the best distributor in the offense. Without him, things are very stagnant. Kemba Walker is a score first guard too. It also doesn’t help to not have Marcus Smart around either.
JT and JB are still very young. The passing element is what is next for their development curve. Maybe there’s some truth here but the reason why the Celtics are underachieving starts and ends with the deterioration of Kemba Walker. End the article right there. That’s the truth.
