Mike and Maurkice Pouncey, the twin brothers retire from the NFL. Ramon Foster reported the news on Twitter Friday morning the brothers have combined for 13 Pro Bowl appearances.

Maurkice Pouncey released a statement to Foster sharing his thanks to the Steelers and his brother.

“My family and I are forever indebted to the Rooney Family, Tomilin Family…and employee that works with the Steelers organization. I’m forever grateful for y’all accepting me and treating me with more than first class treatment!

To my big brother Mike Pouncey thank you for always pushing me to be the best. The sacrifices we made will forever go unnoticed but together (13x Pro Bowls 2x first team all pro’s over the last 11 years in the NFL)… who would have ever thought that as kids!!

I’ll always love the game of football and will always be the ultimate competitor in life, I’m just not in love with the sacrifices football carries on in my life”

Maurkice Pouncey

Maurkice was drafted by the Steelers in 2010 out of the University of Florida where he played with coach Urban Meyer. He stayed with the Steelers for his entire NFL career.

Mike Pouncey his twin brother, was drafted by the Dolphins in the following year, but did not stay with the Dolphins for his entire NFL career.

Mike also released a statement to Foster:

We began this journey at 6 years old and now at 31 we will close this chapter of our lives as I announce my retirement from the NFL. I am thankful for everything football has taught me and everywhere it has taken me! Dream big kids because they do come true, not because you dream it and think it is going to happen but because you work as hard as you can towards it and make it happen!

Mike Pouncey

The Steelers will need a replacement for Pouncey at center, as he has been the center of that offensive line success that has kept Big Ben alive in the NFL for this long.

TL//DR: Pouncey brothers retire from the NFL.
