Welcome to another edition of Three Majors and a Minor. In this weeks edition we are going to talk about Tony DeAngelo, The Edmonton Oilers, David Pastrnak and the current COVID protocol in the NHL. If you haven’t already check out the very first Vendetta NHL Power Rankings while you are here.

Tony DeAngelo

The major talking point of the week was New York Rangers defenseman Tony DeAngelo being put on the waivers. He cleared and the Rangers have told him to stay at home until a trade can be agreed. Rumors seem to have him linked with the Calgary Flames and the San Jose Sharks but no deal has been made as of Saturday morning. Certain Rangers players did seem to make fun of the incident after Thursday’s 4-2 win over the Washington Capitals.

COVID causing problems

As of Saturday there have been 19 games postponed due to COVID protocol. There are four more known postponements already scheduled for Saturday and Sunday bringing the total number to 23 games. No-one said it’d be easy but less than a month into a shortened season to have so many games needing to be rescheduled is not ideal for the NHL or the teams.

Oilers

Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl have combined for a total of 46 points in 12 games played as of Saturday morning. Yet the Oilers are barely making the playoffs as things stand with a 6-6-0 record. There’s no doubt they are two of the best players in the league but without a defense are the Oilers ever going to be more than just an exciting team to watch? 20 goals in five games is what they’ve conceded. Are they wasting the talent of McDavid and Draisaitl by not improving defensively? Let us know on Twitter.

And now for the Minor…

David Pastrnak is back and the Bruins are 3-0-1 since his return. It’s not like they were struggling massively without him (5-1-1) but with eight points in four games, you can see why the forward is so important to the Bruins success. When you tie Alexander Ovechkin for the Rocket Richard, which Pastrnak did last season, you know you’ve made it.
