The Houston Texans will not have an offensive coordinator for the 2017 NFL season. After parting ways with George Godsey, the Houston Texans have decided not to implement a replacement for his departure. The Houston Chronicle first reported the news.
Wide receivers coach Sean Ryan will now take on the dual role of also becoming the team’s quarterback coach. The design to go offensive coordinator less has been done before. Hue Jackson does not have one in Cleveland either. Meanwhile, the Chiefs have two with one being in charge of the run and passing games. The Texans made the playoffs this year despite only scoring 25 touchdowns all season. With Bill O’Brien taking more control, the hope is that this unit improves. O’Brien has been the play caller since week 4 of the 2016 season.
Earlier in the day, linebacker coach Mike Vrabel was promoted to defensive coordinator. Romeo Crennel was promoted to assistant head coach as well. It’s possible that Crennel takes on the role of the management position on the team while O’Brien spends more time in the offensive meeting room.
