Trevor Lawrence has Tested Positive for COVID-19; Who’s Up Next for Clemson?

Trevor Lawrence, Clemson’s star quarterback and the future No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft, has tested positive for COVID-19. In a shocking development, the positive test was first revealed by Mike Garafolo on Twitter. Later, Lawrence confirmed the rumors, tweeting the following;

Lawrence will now miss the Tigers’ game on Saturday against Boston College and is in danger of missing future games. One game, in particular, is the game versus Notre Dame on November 7. It will be interesting to see how these two top-five teams match up if Lawrence cannot start under center.

The Clemson quarterback was off to an incredible start to his 2020 season, logging 1,833 passing yards with 17 touchdowns. Lawrence had firmly asserted himself in the Heisman Trophy conversation before his positive test.

So what’s next for Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney and the No. 1 ranked Tigers. The answer might lie in true freshman quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei. The California native was a five-star prospect last season and ranked as one of the country’s top quarterbacks. Uiagalelei was labeled as the quarterback of the future for the Tigers. However, he now might have to start much earlier than expected.

Earlier this week, Lawrence discussed the possibility of returning to school for his senior season. After testing positive for COVID-19, it remains to be seen what his decision will be. For right now, he will have to isolate himself away from the rest of the Clemson Tigers. It will also be interesting to see how Uiagalelei will perform if he gets the nod to start.
