Ravens Acquire Yannick Ngakoue From Vikings For Draft Pick Compensation
The Minnesota Vikings acquired Yannick Ngakoue from the Jaguars in the offseason for a 2021 second-round pick and a 2022 conditional fifth-round pick. Months later, the Vikings have sold Ngakoue to the Ravens for a similar package as the team currently sits 1-5 on the season.
Adam Schefter of ESPN was the first to report the news. Ngakoue heads to Baltimore for a pair of draft picks.
The Vikings essentially swapped a second-round pick for a third-round pick to get six games out of Ngakoue. Not great, but the Vikings were pretenders. Ngakoue is also a free agent after the season and will receive a big payday. Minnesota also took on a $6.8 million cap hit to get Ngakoue for six games.
For Ngakoue, this is a dream scenario. The defensive end played his college ball for the University of Maryland before the Jacksonville Jaguars selected him in the third round in 2016. Since then, he’s turned into a hell of a pro. Thus far, Ngakoue has five sacks and two forced fumbles in six games. He also gets to be teammates with Calais Campbell again.
The Ravens needed pass-rushing help. Outside of Matthew Judon, Baltimore wasn’t generating much of a pass rush. With the addition of Ngakoue, this defense got even scarier. There’s a ton of star power on this defense. Ngakoue, Campbell, Judon, Marcus Peters, and Marlon Humphrey… WOW. Even rookie Patrick Queen looks good.
