Jaren Jackson Jr. has signed an extension with the Memphis Grizzlies. He is returning on a massive 5-year, $240 million contract. This was first reported by Shams Charania on Twitter/X:
Jaren Jackson Jr.’s deal is actually a rare renegotiation-and-extension deal. He is renegotiating his deal for $33 million this year for the 2025-2026 season. After this season his extension will go into effect for $46.2 million for the 2026-2027 season, $49.8 million for the 2027-2028 season, $53.5 million for the 2028-2029 season, and $57.2 million for the 2029-2030 season. Bobby Marks has the full details on Twitter/X:
Jaren Jackson Jr. is looking like he might be a Memphis Grizzlies legend. While the Grizzlies have title aspirations, JJJ is a huge part of that plan. The former 2023 DPOY will continue to be a cornerstone of this franchise. JJJ is a true stretch 5 in the modern NBA. While his rebounding is much to be desired, he makes up for it to be able to score on all 3 levels for the Grizzlies. With Santi Aldana and Zach Edey on the team, this leaves room for JJJ to worry more about scoring and using his defending versatility rather than rebounding. In reality, we could see Jackson move towards more of a stretch 4 role to help their rebounding and make the most out of their roster.
The Grizzlies are hoping to get back in the mix for the playoffs and make a serious push in the wild wild West (the Western Conference). We’ll see how far the pairing of Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. takes them.
