Klay Thompson slams Jaren Jackson Jr. over tweet

It’s safe to say Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson kept all the receipts.

The five-time All-Star wasted zero time remembering and roasting a specific tweet from Memphis Grizzlies forward Jaren Jackson Jr. — back in March — after capturing his fourth NBA Title over the Boston Celtics Thursday night.

“There was this one player on the Grizzlies who tweeted ‘Strength in numbers’ after they beat us in the regular season, and it pissed me off so much,” Thompson said after the game Thursday. “I can’t wait to retweet that thing. Freakin’ bum. I had to watch that. I’m like, ‘This freakin’ clown.’ … Sorry, that memory just popped up. Gonna mock us? You ain’t ever been there before. We’ve been there before, we know what it takes. So to be here again, hold that.

“Twitter fingers, can you believe it? I got a memory like an elephant — I don’t forget. And there were a lot of people kicking us when we were down.”

For reference, here’s the tweet that Thompson was referring to:

JJJ tweeted this after the Grizzlies’ 123-95 victory over the Warriors on March 28. Golden State was without Stephen Curry (foot), Draymond Green (rest) and Klay Thompson (rest) in the 28-point loss — a second night of a back-to-back — and it was perhaps Golden State’s lowest moment of the season since it was their sixth lost in seven games. It also put the Warriors five games back of Memphis for the second-seed.

It’s worth mentioning that Jackson didn’t play in the March 28 game, either. The first-team All-Defensive honoree averaged 19.0 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game in the second-round series against Golden State. But, again, the Warriors prevailed in the end.

It’s hard not to respect Thompson for this move. (Sorry, Grizzlies fans.)

As petty as I would probably be as a professional athlete, I would be keeping all the receipts and distributing them one-by-one if my team won the title. I’d keep a lot of tabs, in my brain and otherwise. Regardless of if I scored 7 points per game or 20, I would initially be classy. But I would also be very passive aggressive while delivering strays throughout said press conference and upcoming offseason.

Not to mention, I respect Thompson even more for sharing this after winning the Title instead of after eliminating Memphis — which happened over a month ago, believe it or not. You can’t deny being a champion, let alone a four-time champion. Plus, after everything Klay Thompson’s been through over the last two years with the multiple knee injuries, setbacks and rehab, he deserves all of this moment and then some. Talk that talk, Klay.
