CJ Mosley Announces Retirement

Unfortunately, there will be no CJ Mosley revenge tour. When Mosley was released by the Jets, I thought for sure we were going to see the best of him come out this upcoming season. That won’t be the case as the former Alabama product has decided to announce his retirement.

Mosley, celebrating his 33rd birthday today, announced in a social media post that he is retiring via Instagram:

“Today, it is time to wake up from my childhood dream and share it with the next generation,” Mosley said in his Instagram video posted Thursday. “I spent my whole life and career building my legacy. Now it’s time to start a new chapter with new dreams. It won’t be easy, but I’m here to tell you every sacrifice is worth it.

“When you wake up, what will your legacy look like?”

Mosley signed a five-year, $85 million contract with the Jets in 2019. He didn’t make it through the entire contract, but he certainly held up his end of the bargain for most of it. From the start of 2021, Mosley notched 168, 158, and 152 tackles respectively over the next three seasons.

The former 17th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft made the Pro Bowl three times during his Ravens tenure, including his rookie season. It’s just a shame that Baltimore got outbid in free agency and never even used the franchise tag. If he had stayed with the Ravens, his career would probably be viewed differently than otherwise with the losing Jets.

Either way, cheers to a hell of a career.
