Greg Ward Has Become a Dependable Weapon For Eagles

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has done a piss poor job building a supporting cast around Carson Wentz. A void of talent often creates an opportunity for an unheralded player to take advantage. Greg Ward is no longer just a call up from the practice squad. Ward has turned into a dependable weapon for Philadelphia.

Greg Ward has become the Eagles’ best and most reliable target; that’s not a question anymore. DeSean Jackson can’t stay on the field. Jalen Reagor looks like another Nelson Agholor. Give me a break with the clown show that is JJ Arcega-Whiteside. Ward is the guy for Philadelphia.

Sure, having Ward as your number one isn’t ideal, but let’s not act like the guy can’t play. The former University of Houston quarterback has a catch rate of 69.2% in 2020 on balls thrown his direction. I’ll take that! He’s more of an intermediate route runner averaging 8.7 yards per reception.

Ward has proven he has excellent hands. On a team that featured Agholor for a long time, catching the ball is a valuable skill set. Ward has converted all of the contested catch opportunities thrown his way (3 for 3). He also has a true catch rate of 94.7%, only dropping one ball on the season. Pretty, pretty good for a former quarterback.

Ward, 25, took a long time even to make this roster. In his second NFL season, Ward no longer looks like a practice squad player. He’s a real NFL receiver that can hold his own. Ward was cut two years in a row before he ever even made the practice squad. Now he’s the best guy Philadelphia has.

Thus far in 2020, Ward has 18 receptions for 146 yards and one touchdown. With the compounding injuries on the roster, his opportunities are only going to increase. It’s time to take Greg Ward seriously because he’s here to stay.
