Why You’re An Idiot If You Thought Connor Hellebuyck Deserved The Hart Over Leon Draisaitl

I can’t be the only one who feels this way, but I can’t believe Connor Hellebuyck won the Hart (MVP) Trophy. I’m totally flabbergasted. Sorry, not sorry, but this entire thing is a joke, and you’re a total idiot if you thought Hellebuyck deserved this award over Leon Draisaitl.

This isn’t arguable. Draisaitl was the best player in the league during the regular season. It’s not disputable, and it’s a complete slap in the face to everyone’s intelligence for pretending otherwise. By the way, I’m very aware this is a regular season award. I’m just wondering why everyone needs to even make the caveat for Draisaitl.

Draisaitl, 29, scored 52 goals this season. Oh, and he missed 11 games and still led the league in scoring by a mile.

Only one other player had 45.

The two players behind Draisaitl in MVP voting (Kucherov and MacKinnon), neither of whom even reached 40 goals.

We do get that if you tear Draisaitl off this team, Edmonton doesn’t make the playoffs, right? He’s got 32 points this postseason and has helped drag the Oilers back to the Cup final. He’s the most inevitable goal scoring force the league has to offer. Can we stop being noobs and just give the guy the respect he deserves?

Connor Hellebuyck Decided To Stay With Winnipeg After The Pierre-Luc Dubois Trade?

I’m not even trying to take shots at Hellebuyck. The guy had a great year. He played 63 games and won 47 of them on the heels of a .925 SV%. I’d just argue that the gap between Hellebuyck and other goalies around the league wasn’t even drastic enough to be a consideration for winning this type of award.

Andrei Vasilevskiy won 38 games and posted a .921 SV%. Darcy Kuemper had the exact same SV%. There’s virtually no gap between Hellebuyck and Logan Thompson, minus the number of starts. Which, of course, I’d argue, 63 games and quite literally sitting on the bench and doing nothing in the other contests should automatically eliminate you from discussing this.

Total travesty. If Connor McDavid weren’t his teammate, Draistaitl wins in a runaway. I’m just tired of pretending otherwise. Give 29 his damn respect. He’s the MVP in my book, and it’s not close.
