Aaron Boone Claims He Was Always A Carlos Narvaez Believer
Trey doesn’t do hindsight bias. I had harsh words for the Red Sox after they made the Carlos Narvaez trade. There isn’t a clear winner in the trade yet, but the Sox certainly have a reason to feel thrilled with their end of the deal. Narvaez has been the best catcher on the roster in Boston and looks like a complete hit after coming over via trade from the Yankees.
Aaron Boone did everything in his power to try to convince us that he was a Narvaez believer this entire time.
“This is obviously a really talented catcher, and a smart guy with an amazing head on his shoulders, amazing person, so not surprised by his success,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said.
“The level offensively — that he’s been this good, this early — maybe that’s caught me off [guard] a little bit, but there was no doubt in my mind that he was a big-league player.”
Narvaez, 26, is hitting .284 with six homers and 19 RBIs thus far on the season. He’s also been great defensively and has totally established himself as the starter ahead of Connor Wong.
For as good as Narvaez has been, the winner of this trade hasn’t been decided yet. Don’t forget, this trade is the entire reason why the Yankees could afford teenage international prospect Stiven Marinez. We’re years away from finding out on that one, though. Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz is pitching well for the Yanks in their system too. Time will tell on the Yankees’ part of this.
