Bill O’Brien is out as the head coach and general manager of the Houston Texans, as the team fired him Monday afternoon, per Adam Schefter.

Romeo Crennel is the likely interim head coach, per Adam Schefter.

Bill O’Brien had been the head coach of the Houston Texans since the 2014 NFL Season. Since then, O’Brien has a regular-season record of 52 wins and 48 losses. O’Brien led the Houston Texans to four AFC South division titles in 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2019. As for his postseason work, O’Brien and the Texans went 2-4. He has never made it past the division round of the AFC Playoffs.

O’Brien has made some big moves as the general manager of the Houston Texans. His most notable moves made back included the acquisition of left tackle Laremy Tunsil from the Miami Dolphins for two first-round draft picks. They then extended Laremy Tunsil to a three-year deal worth up to $66 million, with $50 million in guaranteed money.

Following the trade for Tunsil, O’Brien shipped out former first overall pick, Jadeveon Clowney. Houston sent Clowney to the Seattle Seahawks for a 2020 third-round pick, Jacob Martin and Barkevious Mingo.

One offseason after shipping out the best defensive player on the team, O’Brien traded away the best offensive player, DeAndre Hopkins.

The All-Pro receiver was traded to the Arizona Cardinals for a second-round pick and running back David Johnson, which was met by heavy criticism within the media.

Terrible trades for the franchise, along with lackluster postseason play has defined the O’Brien era in Houston. The Bill Belichick disciple won’t be on the free-agent market long, as numerous former Belichick assistants generally land a job on his staff shortly after losing their current positions.

Bill O’Brien had general manager added to his title officially before the beginning of the 2020 NFL season, now Houston is looking for a new one.
