DeMarcus Lawrence Says Cowboys Defense Is “Soft”

The Cowboys offense put up 566 yards and 38 points on Sunday. What if I also told you they also lost! Most of that damage came while Dallas was already trailing big as Dak Prescott will be the ultimate garbage time fantasy quarterback this year. The Cowboys defense is about as bad as it gets right now.

Dallas gave up 49 points, and 31 of it came in the first half. Cleveland took their foot off the gas and mostly burned the clock. The Browns had this game won via the ground attack rushing for 307 yards on 40 carries. Nick Chubb got hurt in this game, and the Cowboys run defense still got slaughtered.

It was only a matter of time before someone on this defense spoke up. DeMarcus Lawrence has entered the chat and called the Cowboys defense soft:

“We got to hold ourselves to a higher standard,” Lawrence said, via Jon Machota of TheAthletic.com. “We got to play together as one. And I don’t feel like we are holding ourselves accountable, including myself. So, I call the shit soft, and we will get better from it.”

“It’s not my job to worry about scheme or worry about where the next man is going,” Lawrence said. “I already have a hard enough job myself. It’s all about just attacking, and I don’t feel like we are doing that at all as a unit.”

The Cowboys’ defense is brutal. There’s no other way to slice it. Dallas is giving up 430 yards and 36.5 points per game. If Mike Nolan isn’t getting criticized, he should be. Was Nolan the best candidate, or did he only get the job because Mike McCarthy knows him from the San Francisco days? There’s no reason this defense should be this bad. A quick hook on Nolan could be what’s next.

One quick note: Hey, Mike McCarthy! Maybe you might want to take my advice. Run the football, control the clock, and keep your defense off the field. That’s how this team wins football games—time to get the memo.
