Brett Rypien may not get another start according to Vic Fangio

Despite his performance in Thursday’s win against the Jets, Denver Broncos’ head coach Vic Fangio is uncertain if he would let Brett Rypien start against the Patriots next week.

When asked who the starter would be in Week 5, Fangio responded:

“I mean, yeah, we have some extra days here to think about it. We’ll take a look at the tape thoroughly, analyze it, and go with what we think is best.”

Rypien completed 19 of 31 passes for 242 yards and two touchdowns in the win against the New York Jets. However, he also threw three interceptions, including a pick-six. The upside to Brett Rypien’s play is that he took zero sacks. Something the Broncos have struggled with the entire season so far.

When asked about Brett Rypien’s play during his first career start Vic Fangio had this to say.

“It was up and down, obviously. I thought there were some good things, and we hit some big plays, which is always important. But then throwing three interceptions, you’re not going to win many times in this league. But we found a way to win tonight in spite of that, which I think is a reflection of the fight we have in this team and with these players.”

Head coach Vic Fangio has Rypien’s turnovers on his mind, and he most likely will when he decided who will lead the Broncos against the Patriots. Week one starter Drew Lock is currently dealing with a rotator cuff injury. That leaves three QB options for the Denver Broncos. Jeff Driskel, who started week three, Blake Bortles, and Brett Rypien.

Brett Rypien, however, was not concerned about the starting position. When asked about the decision of remaining the starter, he said that “We’ll see, that’s obviously not up to me. I’m just really going to enjoy this win tonight and we’ll cross that bridge when it comes.”
