Abraham Toro Had Serious Praise For Red Sox Prospect Roman Anthony

Triston Casas has been lost for the season, and the Red Sox are calling up Abraham Toro to fill those shoes for now. Toro, 28, has bounced around the league, but started out this season at the AAA level with the WooSox. After spending some time with heralded prospect Roman Anthony, Toro had some serious praise for the young slugging outfielder.

“I don’t say this lightly — I think he’s the best minor league hitter I’ve ever seen,” said Toro, who has played for five different organizations and appeared in 28 games for the WooSox to begin the 2025 season. “I think he can be an absolute star in MLB. It just shows what he’s doing.”

“He’s patient,” Toro said. “The way he’s hitting it the other way, he’s going to be a star one day.”

“The thing that impressed me the most is you don’t see young guys going that often for power to the opposite field,” Toro said. “And he stays there. And he’s not really trying to pull the ball. Whenever he does, it’s kind of like by accident.”

Right now, Anthony pretty much tops the prospect charts for every single list that you want to look at. He feels like as sure of a thing as it possibly gets. Here’s the other thing: Kristian Campbell has been a hit for the Red Sox already as a rookie, and Anthony was consistently ranked ahead of him coming through the system. I can’t imagine just how good this dude is going to be when he’s eventually called up to the Show.
