Terron Armstead Announces Retirement

I’m well aware I’m way late with this post, but I wanted to prioritize getting the NFL Draft content done in time. The one-man team of Trey can only do so much, but I didn’t want to ignore this piece of news. With that said, it’s officially the end of the road for Terron Armstead. The 12-year NFL veteran will call it quits and has announced his retirement.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport was the first to report the news on Armstread’s retirement news:

Armstead, 33, made 131 starts over the course of his career in what included five trips to the Pro Bowl. You could tell the injuries were really starting to get to him as the former 2013 third-round pick missed 13 with the Dolphins over the past three years. It was just hard for him to consistently stay on the field anymore, which probably sparked this decision.

The Arkansas-Pine Bluff product was a revelation at the 2013 NFL Scouting Combine. He played at a dinky school but skyrocketed in the draft after running a 4.71-second 40-yard dash, which is still a record for any offensive lineman at the event. Once that happened, you had a feeling Armstead had a real chance to make it at the NFL level, despite not playing at a big school. Say whatever you want, but 40 times for offensive line prospects are actually the most translateable to on-field success.

Former teammate Drew Brees had a really nice speech about Armstead once it was announced he was done with the NFL:

“Twelve amazing years in the NFL,” Brees said Saturday during a speech at Armstead’s retirement party, via neworleans.football’s Nick Underhill. “The mainstay wherever he went. I’ll never forget the day that he showed up in our locker room back in 2013. He didn’t start that year off as the starter, but it became evident very quickly that this guy was not only gonna be a starting left tackle for us for a very long time, but he was gonna be a leader in our locker room, he was gonna be a leader in the huddle and he was gonna be a leader throughout the league. He’s exemplified what it takes to be a champion in this league in the locker room and with his teams for a very long time.”
