Alex Cora Has No Plans To Move Rafael Devers To First Base

Alex Cora Has No Plans To Move Rafael Devers To First Base

The Red Sox need a first baseman. Triston Casas has been lost for the season, and when I say season, it could be parts of the 2026 MLB Season too, based on the injury. Having Rafael Devers dust off his fielding glove would sure make a lot of sense, but Alex Cora appears very against it.

“We talked about the Raffy first base thing the other day,” said MassLive’s Chris Cotillo. “Have you had any conversations with him about it?”

“No,” Cora responded flatly.

“Do you plan to?” Cotillo followed up.

“No,” Cora repeated with the same affect.

It would appear that the Sox are going to go with Abraham Toro and Romy Gonzalez for now. Again, feel free to click the embed, but playing Devers at first would make all the sense in the world. A big reason why he’s not hitting the same this year is because you encouraged him to be lazy. It’s really not that hard to understand, except Cora doesn’t appear to be grasping that concept.

The Sox best lineup probably includes having Kristian Campbell play left field, Roman Anthony at DH, calling up Marcelo Mayer to play second, and having Devers at first. Except the Sox aren’t going to do that because they’re dumb and instead continue to flush games down the toilet, sitting at 18-19 on the season. This really isn’t that hard to understand, but that’s what happens when you sign up for nerd mode.
