It was announced earlier this week that 19-year NBA veteran and 10-time All-Star Carmelo Anthony was going to be a part of the 2025 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame inductees.
On Saturday, the full list was announced, with Anthony and eight-time All-Star Dwight Howard headlining the list. In total, eight individuals–and the 2008 Team USA “Redeem” Team–were announced as the 2025 HOF class, ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania first reported.
Only three other players outside of Anthony and Howard made it–three WNBA legends: Sue Bird, Maya Moore and Sylvia Fowles.
Bird and Moore are two of the best WNBA basketball players ever. Bird, a four-time WNBA champion, made 13 WNBA All-Star teams, eight All-WNBA teams and is one of the most accomplished American Olympians ever.
Moore also won four WNBA titles, an MVP, was a six-time All-Star and seven-time All-WNBA honoree in just eight seasons with the Minnesota Lynx. Fowles, a one-time MVP and two-time champion, won four Defensive Player of the Year awards and was an 11-time All-Defensive team member with eight All-WNBA honors to her name.
Others given honors were current Bulls head coach and former Florida head coach Billy Donovan, longtime referee Danny Crawford and Miami Heat owner Micky Arison.
Anthony’s honor was first reported on Thursday while Howard’s announcement was disclosed on Friday night. It was well-deserved for both individuals; it’s still shocking to me how Howard didn’t make the top-75 list, but that’s a different discussion for a different day.
He’s an eight-time All-NBA honoree, two-time block champion and a three-time Defensive Player of the Year award winner who averaged 19.5 points, 13.3 rebounds and 2.3 blocks over an eight-year span from 2006-13.
The official enshrinement into the Basketball Hall of Fame will take place on Sept. 6.
