The Premier League is back, and already coaches are at each other’s throats. It’s fantastic! Jurgen Klopp and Frank Lampard exchanged words leading up to their clash next weekend, after already having a falling out during Liverpool’s 5-3 win at Anfield in July. Something from the Liverpool bench agitated Lampard, and he could be heard telling Klopp to ‘fuck off and sit down’ during the clash, and now the bad blood has continued.
During a press conference, Klopp was asked about Chelsea’s transfer activity this summer and responded with:
“We live in a world with a lot of uncertainty. For some clubs it seems to be less important how uncertain the future is — owned by countries, owned by oligarchs, that’s the truth. We’re a different kind of club. We got to the Champions League final two years ago, we won it last year, and became Premier League champions last season by being the club we are, by being led the way we are led. We cannot just change it overnight and say, ‘So now we want to behave like Chelsea, now they’ve signed a lot of players’.”

Speaking to the Daily Mail on the build-up to Chelsea’s opening day fixture against Brighton, Lampard responded.
“The reality is — other than maybe Leicester, which was an incredible story — most clubs that win the League in the modern day have recruited well and have recruited at quite a high level money-wise. You can go through the Liverpool players — Van Dijk, Alisson, Fabinho, Keita, Mane, Salah. Incredible players that came at a very high price.”

Having grown up watching the Premier League, some of my favorite moments happened between coaches. The mind games played always piqued my interest. The battles between Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger during the Manchester United versus Arsenal wars were made for great entertainment. I mean, who can forget the epic meltdown by then Newcastle United boss Kevin Keegan as his team squandered a 12-point lead to lose the title to Manchester United in the 1995/96 season.
Hopefully, Jurgen Klopp and Frank Lampard exchanged words leads to a rebirth of the managerial battles. Honestly, I would love it if it does. Love it.
