Howie Roseman did it again. Another former Georgia Bull Dawg is on his way to Philadelphia, and for dirt cheap money. The Eagles have signed former Giants pass rusher Azeez Ojulari to a free agent contract.
Can’t recall Jeremy Fowler breaking any other stories this offseason but he got this one. The ESPN columnist was the first to report this news:
In reality, there is only one thing to talk about here. The Cardinals signed Josh Sweat to a monster free agent contract. Sweat might be the better player. Is he $72 million better? That’s the real question everyone should be asking. Despite the lights out Super Bowl performance, the answer is probably no, he isn’t $72 million better than Ojulari.
Ojulari, 24, is still an ascending player. He had six sacks a year ago in 11 games. Keep in mind, the Giants are terrible and those second half with a lead pin your ears back pass rush situations aren’t there. How many of those situations will be there with the Eagles while playing for a team that has a lead and Jalen Carter / Jordan Davis eating up the middle? Yeah, this has serious potential to work. It’s also a player I was high on coming out of college and eight sacks as a rookie indicates something is in the tank here. Getting away from the Giants could be the missing piece.
Feel free to comment if you feel differently or agree but this move just feels like a home run in every sense of the word. By the way, Philly is in line to collect a boatload of comp picks this offseason even after making this move to add Ojulari.
