The Cowboys are attempting to buy low on a former first round pick that hasn’t performed to expectations. Will it work? Do these types of moves usually work out for the Cowboys? Normally not, but this one is interesting and worth talking about. The Buffalo Bills have traded Kaiir Elam to the Cowboys in exchange for a late round pick swap.
The Bills team account was actually the first to report the news:
If you read my draft profile on Elam ^ you will notice I was fairly high on this player coming out of college. Hand up because that was a terrible call by me and I promise I’ll write a follow up on where I went wrong here because there is a reason why he got traded for a dirt cheap pick swap.
Elam was lapped on the depth chart by pretty much everyone on the roster and fell out of the cornerback rotation. The former first-round pick in 2022 will attempt to rebuild his career with a change of scenery in Dallas.
It’s a worthwhile gamble for the Cowboys simply because they’re pretty desperate at the position. Trevon Diggs hasn’t been quite right since he tore his ACL. Jourdan Lewis left in free agency. It’s Daron Bland, Andrew Booth, Kemon Hall, and Caelen Carson. Not exactly a group that inspires a ton of confidence.
Feel free to comment if you like or hate this gamble by the Cowboys.
