Jalen Milroe Is Not Considering Changing Positions

Jalen Milroe struggled at the Senior Bowl. When I say struggled, that’s probably putting it very nicely. The Alabama quarterback was so brutal in Mobile that I jotted down in my notes questioning if he should change positions at the NFL level.

It turns out someone asked Milroe about that. As of right now, he has no plans to move off the quarterback position.

VIA Pro Football Talk:

“No, it’s always quarterback,” Milroe said. “Of course, the question’s asked — switching positions, something like that, what I can do.

“But you never ask a zebra to be a dog.”

“One thing that I’ve done this past offseason is watch NFL tape,” Milroe said. “so, watching [Joe] Burrow, watching [Brock] Purdy, watching Geno Smith. And one thing that’s unique about all of them is they play on time, they have pocket integrity, their footwork in the pocket is so efficient, the body movement that they put themselves in to make every throw on the field — that’s what’s going to be important. There’s going to be certain scenarios where perfect ball placement beats perfect coverage every time. So, just knowing where your hots are, as well.

“Just watching that tape, just watching those guys be able to ball each and every Sunday — it’s inspiring because that’s where I want to be in the future.”

The good news for Milroe is that he has a chance to improve his draft stock at the Combine. Which is probably going to happen because he has plus arm strength and he’s not just going to run a fast time. That 40 time by Milroe is going to be jaw dropping good. Stay tuned for that.

Regardless of all of that, Milroe can talk about how he’s a quarterback and won’t move off that position. That’s all fine and good. Just as long as he’s real about the fact that it’s impossible to use a premium pick on the guy based on the way he throws right now.
