To the surprise of absolutely nobody, Los Angeles Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn told reporters that Tyrod Taylor will be the starting quarterback, per Adam Schefter.
So we won’t get a first round quarterback clash between Justin Herbert and Joe Burrow and I’m not disappointed one bit. I don’t know who needs to hear this, but Tyrod Taylor is a good quarterback.
During his three years as the starting quarterback for the Buffalo Bills, Taylor put up 8857 passing yards, 51 passing touchdowns, 16 interceptions and had a completion percentage of 62.6 all in 44 games. Taylor was also a dangerous threat in the running game. From 2015-2017, Tyrod Taylor had 1575 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns on 283 attempts. Taylor averaged 5.57 yards per attempt as a runner, Josh Allen averaged 4.7 rushing yards per attempt and people are out here banging the table and calling him an amazing duel threat quarterback. I think Taylor will be a better fantasy quarterback than Josh Allen this year.
People seem to think that the Tyrod Taylor we saw with the Cleveland Browns is who Taylor is as a quarterback, but that’s not the case. Taylor led the Buffalo Bills to the playoffs, he was an extremely efficient passer and a dangerous threat as a runner. Anthony Lynn can create an offense around Tyrod Taylor in a similar way that the Baltimore Ravens have built an offense around Lamar Jackson.
We need to give Tyrod Taylor more credit, he’s a starting caliber quarterback. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if Taylor keeps Justin Herbert on the bench for not only the entire 2020 season, but parts of the 2021 season. You will see that Taylor is quality starting quarterback. Just wait and see.
