Pittsburgh Steelers Facing Super Bowl Or Bust Season

If the Pittsburgh Steelers don’t win the Super Bowl this year then they’re done. The way the Kevin Colbert has constructed this roster is to go all in this year and see what happens next season, let’s get into it.

Salary Cap

The Pittsburgh Steelers have pulled some rabbits out of the hat and restructured multiple contracts to be under the cap for the 2020 season. The issue is, their cap for the 2021 season is currently screwed. Yet they are projected to have over $26 million in space but they only have 38 players under contract for the 2021 season. Ben Roethlisberger is set to have a $41 million cap hit in 2021, Joe Haden is set have over $15 million on the books and Stephon Tuitt is set for $14.9 million. This is not including a potential Bud Dupree extension. The Steelers will need to work some cap magic for 2021.

All In On Roethlisberger

The Pittsburgh Steelers were among many teams that entered the 2020 NFL Draft without a first round pick. This meant that they were going all in with Ben Roethlisberger and hoping that he’d recover from elbow surgery. While Ben Roethlisberger has been good in camp, he’s getting older and coming off of elbow surgery. I don’t know how good he’ll be after 2020, it’s a massive unknown and proves that 2020 has to be the year.

Older Roster

The Pittsburgh Steelers have an old roster, there’s no way around it. The offensive line are all near or older than 30. Ben Rosthlisberger is almost 40. Cam Heyward and Stephon Tuitt are getting up there in age and Joe Haden is 31. While these are all players who are playing well, it’s only a matter of time until they start to regress. If the Steelers don’t win this year, it’s hard to see them winning a Super Bowl without major retooling.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been historically great as a franchise. However, this year is the last chance they have to win a Super Bowl with their current team. Age and money will be their downfall.
