I Can’t Believe A Single Human On The Planet Thinks Travis Hunter Didn’t Deserve The Heisman

I Can’t Believe A Single Human On The Planet Thinks Travis Hunter Didn’t Deserve The Heisman

I’m fully aware the Heisman was announced a decent time ago but this has been a hot topic in our company Slack, so follow me here. I promise this will be worth your time because this is something that really needs to be talked about. I can’t believe a single human on the planet thinks Travis Hunter didn’t deserve the Heisman. Anyone who feels differently probably should be exiled and fired into the sun.

My goal here isn’t to bash the other finalists that didn’t win. Ashton Jeanty, Cam Ward, and Dillon Gabriel had fantastic seasons that deserved to be recognized. It should just also be clear that anyone with a brain understands this award belongs to Hunter and it’s not arguable. Anyone arguing against Hunter can’t be trusted to cross the street.

There is no argument. What Hunter did is something we’ve literally never seen in the history of college football. He is Shohei Ohtani but in football. During the season, Hunter notched 92 catches for 1,152 yards and 14 TDs. Oh, and had another rushing touchdown. On defense, the two-way start posted four interceptions and 11 PBUs.

The snap count should give him the award alone regardless of the production. Hunter played 688 defensive snaps and 672 offensive snaps. Nobody else did this. Forget that… nobody else has done this in the history of the sport.

When Charles Woodson won the Heisman, he had 11 catches for 231 yards and two scores. Champ Bailey had 47 catches for 744 yards and five touchdowns along with 16 carries for 84 yards in 1998. Both of those guys were ELITE NFL players and Hunter dog walked all of their numbers.

It goes far beyond the stats. This guy tilts the field like nobody we’ve ever seen. Quarterbacks wouldn’t throw to his side of the field. QBs had a 42.0 passer rating when targeting Hunter’s side of the field. The man constantly created pass interference calls out of nothing playing receiver. You can make the case what Hunter did is the single greatest season a college football player has ever had in the history of the sport. He’s totally lived up his being the number one recruit in the country coming out of high school.

It’s not a discussion. There is no argument. Hunter is the most outstanding football player, which is what the award is supposed to distinguish. Again, I’m not here to disrespect the other candidates but the idea that a running back put up a bunch of yards playing in the Mountain West is somehow comparable is a totally laughable concept. Boise was the best team in the Mountain West by a mile and killing inferior opponents in a weak conference isn’t something that can be taken seriously to strip the award away from Hunter.

The definition of the Heisman is to award the most outstanding football player. If you think there was a more outstanding player, you need to check yourself into therapy. If Ohtani makes 35 starts and posted a 2.25 ERA while hitting 50 homers, he’s the MVP. That’s what Hunter did except in football. If you’re arguing against Hunter, I hate to break the news to you but you’re an incredible stupid person.
