Ohio State just finds a way to bring in talented skill-position players year after year. While Ohio State has been known as of late as Wide Receiver University, they are starting to make a name for themselves in Running Backs, too. Today, they landed the commitment of four-star prospect Anthony Rogers. The no. 11 ranked RB in the country announced today he will be playing for the Buckeyes next fall, after de-committing from Alabama back on 11/17. Up until that point, Rogers had been the longest-tenured recruit for Kalen DeBoer.
Anthony Rogers had been heavily pursued by Ole Miss, Auburn, and Georgia came in late and made a huge push to land “Turbo”. The 5’9, 190 lb rusher out of Carver HS in Montgomery, Alabama becomes Ohio State’s eighth top 100 prospect of this cycle. This class boasts the no. 3 overall prospect, QB Tavien St. Clair, as well as a bounty of players on the outside.
Rogers had this to say about his decision:
Full quote via on3.com:
“Ohio State fits me,” Rogers told On3. “They have a great history with running backs. Ohio State always has great backs, they put them in a position to be successful and that always stood out to me. Their system, how they produce and the fit stand out most about Ohio State.”
“Coach Lock is a great guy. He recruited me hard as soon as he got there and he made me feel like a guy he wanted. We have a real relationship and he knows how to coach backs up and make them successful. He has recruited me hard, I see an opportunity to play for him early and it will be great to be in his room.”
Anthony Rogers will bring pure speed to this Ohio State offense (he has the nickname Turbo for a reason). A former track athlete, Rogers posted times of 11.29 and 11.34 in the 100-meter dash in March 2023. He brings blazing speed as well as quick footwork and lightning-fast change of direction. What should get Ohio State fans excited is he also has a lot of experience returning kicks, which can be a massive game-changer for this program to get him on the field early.
