Sebastian Aho is the face of the franchise in Carolina. The number one center signed a mega contract extension with the Canes last year and the team is rolling again this season. Head coach Rod Brind’Amour heaped a ton of praise on the man nicknamed Fishy.
Brind’Amour claims that Aho will become the franchise leader in everything and is the greatest player in franchise history.
“He’s going to be the franchise leader in everything when it’s all said and done, and he should be,” the bench boss said Wednesday. “He’s going to be the best player that’s played here.”
Aho, 27, already ranks third in the organization’s record books in goals, assists, and points. However, Ron Francis holds the top spot among those three categories. Aho does hold the franchise mark in game winning goals, which he just passed Francis in that mark after the win against Philadelphia yesterday.
Aho also spoke about what it’s going to mean to surpass Francis in the record books. Fishy is always a humble guy so this response won’t surprise anyone at all.
“Having my name next to that kind of legend and in the same sentence is special,” Aho said of surpassing Francis.
“Obviously, everyone knows what he did for the game and how good of a player he was. It probably means I’ve done something right to be able to at least be in the same sentence as that guy. Hopefully a lot, lot more to come.”
