Hurricanes Sign Sebastian Aho To Eight-Year Extension
Fishy isn’t going anywhere! It’s eight more years of Sebastian Aho in Carolina. Aho was an impending free agent following the conclusion of the 2023-24 NHL Season. Don Waddell and the rest of the Canes front office has made sure Aho won’t be hitting the open market.
The team has already announced the news of the agreement.

“Sebastian has developed into one of the best two-way centers in hockey,” said Waddell. “He’s a tremendous leader on and off the ice who sets a great example for our younger players. We’re grateful that he’s decided to stay in Carolina for the foreseeable future.”
The terms of the agreement include an eight year extension worth $78 million. That would give Aho an AAV of $9.75 million. Given the way the cap is going up, that’s a no-brainer from a team perspective. Jack Eichel has an AAV of $10 million. To get Aho done for less with the cap spiking the next two years is great business.
Aho, 26, notched 67 points (36 goals, 31 assists) over 75 games for the Canes last season. He’s the total package that plays on the penalty kill as well. Keep in mind, Aho hasn’t had the best supporting cast either. He’s the best forward on that Hurricanes team by a wide margin.
The Canes have been busy this offseason. Jordan Staal got a new contract. Carolina made a huge splash by adding Dmitry Orlov on the blue line. They even brought back Tony DeAngelo yesterday. The deal to keep Fishy in-house is the best news yet this offseason for the team. He’s the face of the franchise and the fear of losing him like Dougie Hamilton is a fear no more.
