The 2024 Fantasy Football season is nearly halfway over. At this point in the season, teams should either be prepping for the playoffs or clawing for a playoff spot. That can be accomplished with a few smart waiver wire additions.
Here is a recap of previous waiver wire targets that should be considered if they are available in your league.
The top fantasy football waiver wire target heading nine of the NFL season is Cleveland Browns receiver Cedric Tillman.
The Browns have practically become a new football team in the two weeks. Deshaun Watson will be out for the year with a ruptured Achilles. That makes Jameis Winston the team’s starting quarterback. On top of that, Amari Cooper was traded to the Buffalo Bills.
This new look Browns offense creates a lot of opportunities. The team can throw the ball down the field with Winston under center. Furtermore, he is aggressive and will give his receivers his chance to make plays. At the same time, any receiver has an opportunity to emerge as the team’s top target. Tillman is on pace to accomplish that.
The Brown’s second-year receiver has had consecutive impressive outings. In the last two weeks, he has combined for 21 targets, 15 receptions, 180 yards, and two touchdowns. It appears like he and Winston have developed some chemistry.
I do not love the idea of depending on a player who plays for the Cleveland Browns; however, this is a fairly unique situation. Tillman holds a lot of upside for a player who is available on the fantasy football waiver wire heading into week 9.
The next player that should be a waiver wire target is Browns quarterback Jameis Winston. This continues our trend of adding Browns players.
A lot of the important points regarding Winston have already been discussed. At the end of the day, he is a solid fantasy quarterback. This is purely because of his aggressive play style. Yes, he will throw interceptions, but he will also fill the stat sheet with yards and touchdowns. That has already been shown.
Winston is not really worth considering in one quarterback league. In any other forward, he should not be sitting on the fantasy football waiver wire. Winston brings a lot more upside than other quarterbacks.
San Francisco 49ers receiver Ricky Pearsall is a strong fantasy football waiver wire target. The 49ers rookie could be a solid piece once the fantasy football playoffs come around.
Pearsall has only played two games in 2024. In those games, he has been involved. At this point, he has nine targets for seven catches and 59 yards. On top of that, he has 39 rushing yards.
I am not interested in adding Pearsall with the expectation that he can immediately help you win games. Rather, he is worth stashing on the bench with the hopes that he peaks during the playoffs.
It is hard to believe that Pearsall is anything close to his ceiling. In a star-studded offense, he has a chance to become a sneaky target who is effective with the ball in his hands. Those opportuntiunes should be more plentiful once he is fully integrated into the offense.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Jalen McMillan is one of the better options available fantasy on the fantasy football waiver wire.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver room is banged up. Chris Godwin is out for the year with a dislocated ankle and Mike Evans will be sidelined with a hamstring injury. That will be the remainder of the Buccaneers receiver room a chance to step up.
McMillian did not explode with the Buccaneers’ star receivers sidelined; however, he looked like he is going to be the team’s best option at receiver. At the end of the day, he finished with four receptions for 35 yards while adding a 17-yard carry. The more optimistic number is that he finished with seven targets.
I would not expect McMillan to be a league winner down the stretch. That said, he is worth picking up off the fantasy football waiver wire. At a minimum, he is a solid depth piece and can step in during injuries or bye weeks.
Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford is the final fantasy football waiver wire target for the week.
In a shocking change of events, Stafford had a much more productive day when Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp were healthy. In Week 8, he finished with 279 yards, four touchdowns, and an interception.
The Rams’ offense has its fair share of flaws; however, the combination of Stafford, Nacua, Kupp, and Sean McVay’s playcalling is dangerous. That is what you are betting odd when adding Stafford.
Stafford current roster percentage makes it seem like he is washed. That is far from the case. If you can get him for free, Stafford is a great fantasy football waiver wire pickup in multiple quarterback leagues.
