Ben Roethlisberger Thinks The Steelers Should Stick With Justin Fields

Did you know the Pittsburgh Steelers haven’t won a playoff game since the 2016-17 NFL Season? A lot of that stems from Mike Tomlin having absolutely no clue about the offensive side of the ball. Ben Roethlisberger announced his retirement many years ago and the Steelers haven’t gotten the quarterback position right since.

“I thought Justin played a good game. He went on some spurts there where he had a couple bad throws in a row, but all in all, I would absolutely not even think about taking him out of the game right now,” Roethlisberger, 42, said following the Steelers’ 32-13 win over the Raiders in Week 6 on his “Footbahlin” podcast, according to CBS Sports.

“I would keep him in there. And even if he has a bad game, I would keep him in there. Because right now, they’re rolling … I think he’s playing well enough, I think he’s doing enough, you saw with his legs, especially.”

“It’s good to know what you have at the backup and Russ is there if you need him,” Roethlisberger added, per CBS Sports, “I think what you’re gonna get from Russ is more pocket presence to throw the ball down the field. But you’re not gonna get that extend-the-play like Justin does. He’s a running back back there when he decides to run. He’s a really, really talented runner as well.”

Sure sounds like Big Ben has self-awareness. Mike Tomlin is a complete idiot for making this change and it turns out that the last quarterback to lead the Steelers to the promise land agrees with me. At this point, it’s not arguable. Tomlin is a dope and just doesn’t get anything about offense. We’re talking about a guy who said Trubisky was going to be the Steelers starter for the entire 2022 Season. Nobody with an IQ above 40 thought that was a good idea. By the way, Trey knew Trubisky sucked when he was at North Carolina. Tomlin couldn’t figure it out after years of bad tape at the NFL level.

This decision by Tomlin will backfire and when it does, so should the volume from reporters calling for him to be fired.

Side note: I’ve seen this argument from people in the comments and I just want to make sure they know they’re wrong. The argument of, well, Russell Wilson makes a lot of money so you have to start him crowd. Denver is literally paying 99% of that contract. The Steelers’ financial commitment to Wilson is close to zero. Anybody making that argument should know they are dumb too.
