Aron Baynes Announces Retirement From Basketball

A legend of the game is calling it quits. Yes, I don’t care what you say. Aron Baynes is a legend and you will respect him! It’s hard to say a bad word about Baynes (and that’s coming from hater of the year, Chickster) who won the NBA championship with the San Antonio Spurs in 2014. Baynes just embodied grit and made a hell of a career for himself.

As the 2024-25 NBA Season gets set to gear up, 6-foot-10, 260-pound big man will call it quits from the sport of basketball.

Baynes’ agent Daniel Moldovan was the first to announce the news of the retirement.

“The boy from Mareeba! Representing you for your entire career has been the honor of a lifetime,” Moldovan posted on the X platform. “You embody everything we teach young athletes about professionalism, dedication and playing for the name on the front of the jersey, not on the back. Love you Azza! All the very best in retirement.”

Baynes, 37, suited up five different teams during his NBA career (San Antonio Spurs, Detroit Pistons, Boston Celtics, Phoenix Suns, and Toronto Raptors). He also played internationally for Australia. One of those notable moments being suffering a scary spinal cord injury during the 2021 Tokoyo Olympics.

During his nine-year career, Baynes averaged six points, 4.6 rebounds, and 0.8 assists per game across 16 minutes per night.

Cheers to a hell of a career. From this particular writer’s point of view, I very much enjoyed watching him when he played for the Celtics. He was an important piece on a couple of those playoff teams in Boston.
