A big mystery was solved last night on the ManningCast. By the way, if you’re not watching the ManningCast for Monday Night football, you’re making a big mistake. I only turn it on for the first half while Bill Belichick is on there. It’s just such high level football analysis that we don’t get with the typical broadcast. The Manning brothers and Belichick discussed a very important topic last night pertaining to Matt Patricia…
Why does Patricia always keep a pencil in his ear? Now we know.
“You’ll see a lot of coaches that have a pen in their ear and the call sheets laminated so they can write notes. Matt Patricia had a pencil in his ear. What do you do with a pencil with a laminated call sheet?” the younger Manning brother asked.
“Well, yeah, that’s just the call sheet; when you make notes, you write down in pencil. Look, I’ve used pencil; I make a lot of mistakes, so I use pencil,” Belichick replied.
(Peyton) Manning chimed in, “I didn’t know if Foxborough made special pencils to persevere through the lamination, so I was very confused for a long time.”
Belichick replied, “No, we don’t use pencils on a laminated sheet.”
“You use the pencil for the adjustment sheet.”
Feel free to comment if you disagree but personally, I’ve been blown away by Belichick this year. He’s clearly brilliant and has been as advertised with every single media appearance he’s done. I’d hire him yesterday and if he was really smart, he’d hire me to run the NFL Draft for him.
How many coaches on the sidelines even make adjustments mid-game? Belichick training his staff members to carry a pencil for a separate adjustment sheet is next level. It’s a travesty he’s not coaching right now.
